Salt & Light

Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT) Teaching about Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

We are each called to be 'salt of the earth & light of the world'. This is a call to a place of influence. In order to influence those that are around us, whether people or situation, we have to be different. Not just different, but different in the right way.

One of the function of salt is that it preserves the earth from corruption. In light of our current situation where corruption & injustice abounds, how are we any different? I'm not tallking about situations beyond our control but how we deal with people we meet & decisions we make everyday.

Light is meant to be seen & not hidden. People are watching us - our lifestyle, attitudes, decision making. What we do will always speak louder than what we say. Our 'deeds' consist of what we do on a daily basis. Does our daily deeds result in 'prasie to our heavenly Father.'?

Who's watching us? Our bosses, peers, employees, family & friends. As parents - our children are watching us. As teachers, our students are also watching us. What do they see? What positive Christian characters can they learn from us?

This short video reminds us of the roles Dads play in their children's life. Kids are watching to see if what we say matches what we do - whether we are Dads, Mums, Teachers, Uncles, Aunties, 'Ko-ko' or 'cheh-cheh'. May we have a postivie influence over their lives...
